Sweet wine Tokaji Oremus Aszu 3 Puttonyos Year 2006, 50 cl. The wine Aszu can only be produced in years of excellent vintage, when the nature offers favourable climate conditions for its production, in the best conditions, of the 'noble rot' (fungus known as 'noble'). The tasting of this wine highlights its cleanness and, above all, the excellent balance between sweetness and sourness.
The highlight of the wines in the cellar is the Tokaji Aszu, the 'lágrima' (tear) wine Tokaji. The Tokaji Aszu is the noblest sweet wine in the world, whose production is influenced positively by the noble rot (fungus known as 'noble'). This is the wine because of which the Russian tsar Peter the Great sent the Cossack legions to guard the wine cellars of Tokaji and the roads by which the wine was transported to St Petersborough for it to be served at Catherine the Great's table. Voltaire said of this wine: 'This wine invigorates every fibre in my brain, and it produces, deep down in my soul, a charming sparkle of intelligence and good humour.'
